Students need convertible tablet PCs

June 9th, 2007 by Nate

For the student laptop movement to succeed, students need convertible tablet PCs. With a convertible tablet, students can lay their computer down on the desk during class. This removes the visual barrier of the computer screen from between the teacher and the student. It also makes it much easier for the classroom teacher to monitor what each student is doing with their computer during class.

What schools need are convertible tablet PCs as cheap as the ones from the OLPC project.

I would like to see Tablet PCs as the standard for students rather than a laptop. However, I believe handwriting recognition would be a very desirable feature, but the cost of the screen technology would put it out of the pricing range of the XO OLPC.
